About this tool and how to use it
This tool compares government revenue, spending, budget balances and debt across the G7 countries from 1980 to 2024, each as a share of GDP. It opens on gross debt for all seven countries and the G7 average since 1990. The figures are for general government, which for Canada combines the federal, provincial, territorial and local governments.
To use it, choose a view from the tabs, then pick the measure, countries and years in the panel. Hover over a chart to read the values, and download any chart or table. The data are from the Department of Finance Canada's Fiscal Reference Tables.
